Some Things Just Go Together

Chocolate and peanut butter: Reese’s cups (yum!)

Coffee with a shot of espresso: Morning lift (wake up!)

Gift cards and graduation: Opportunities to get favorite treats (fun!)

Career Development Center and Rollins MBA Students and Alumni: Career coaching and Networking (success!)

One of the more pleasant aspects of my role is the opportunity to connect people. I want and get to encourage success for our students and alumni, as well as business leaders and their organizations.

When I meet people from Rollins College, and also business leaders, I try to come up with connections that will result in great relationships. I work toward connecting people who are of like minds and passions, and who desire to do their best.

Two people I am thinking of as I write this blog are personable, passionate, and enjoy success in their personal lives as well as their careers.

Earlier this year, an alumnus went to our Alumni Relations office, indicating he was ready for a change in his career. Dawn Nagy, Director of the Alumni Relations Office, introduced him to me so I could provide coaching, suggestions and resources to help him be successful in his search. Around the same time-frame, I met with a local business owner who wanted to hire a professional to grow his already-successful business. We talked about the skills, competencies and values that were expected for the role. He sent me the job description to post on R-Career net. (Jobs for Tars for some of us!). As I reviewed the details of the role, I was reminded of the alumnus, who I had met earlier. Per my request, he provided his resume. His skills and experience appeared to be a match for the business owner’s role. Long story short – they met, they met again and yet a few more times, and then the owner hired our alum. Both parties are happy and enjoying a successful new partnership.

This is a great story that I love to share with others to further demonstrate the power of networking and staying connected with Rollins! I can’t – won’t – guarantee that if you stop by our office, I or one of our staff will know of an opportunity that is right for you. However, I do know for sure that we won’t know if there is a possible match if we don’t know you.

The Career Development Center provides career services to all Rollins MBA students and alumni at any time, in person and via phone or Skype. If you are seeking an internship, starting out in your job search, in transition or just wanting to touch base to get another point of view, please contact us!
Also, we are offering an exciting program this summer: Summer Sessions: Tools for Success! The six sessions target opportunities for you and others to develop or enhance your skills to be competitive in the job market. Read about the sessions and register online.

The new sessions being offered are terrific...I encourage all alumni, regardless of where they stand in their careers, to check in on one or all of them. (All of the moderators are awesome!)

Both Jane and Dawn (and their respective teams) are outstanding resources for all of us...make it a point to keep in contact with them and to also find alumni and students who you share an interest with. Make an introduction and go grab a cup of coffee together.

Go Rollins!

Working women have to juggle a lot of things in today's society. Between their career and their personal life, it can seem as if there isn't enough time in the day to deal with it all. Instead of trying to do everything herself, a woman needs to understand that by asking for help it doesn't make her weak but will help her to reduce stress. A great place to get help is by hiring a woman's coach. Please visit my site!
